La Montaña Tarrazú Benefit, as part of the philosophy and with the desire to maintain the commitment to reducing pollution and continuous improvement in all processes and management, forms the following environmental policy;

“Beneficio La Montaña Tarrazú as an entity dedicated to the production and marketing of specialty coffee, is based on environmental management based on principles of protecting, preserving, and caring for the environment, taking comfort in the three principles of sustainability: environmental, social and economic of coffee-growing areas through its research activities, technology transfer, adopting programs aimed at improving the competitiveness of national coffee growing, in harmony with the sustainable management of natural resources in coffee-growing areas.”

As part of the policy, the following agreements are in place:

1. By 2023, reduce the carbon footprint generated by solid waste produced by 10%, as well as reduce the use of conventional energy at the La Montaña Tarrazú Mill.

2. Apply reduction, reuse, and recycling as fundamental pillars through programs and practices implemented in the organization such as recycling points, implementation of ecological awareness, among others.

3. Make sustainable use of energy resources, water, flora, and fauna for mitigation and adaptation to climate change, protection of the environment and ecosystems.

4. The consumption of single-use plastic is reduced both in the mill and in the office, in the case of plastic containers, implement appropriate techniques for their treatment.

5. In the mill facilities, solid waste will be classified into different categories, using the station designated for this purpose.

6. Benefit La Montaña Tarrazú will promote solid waste management training with staff, raising awareness among clients and collaborators, to meet the objective of recycling, reducing and reusing as part of continuous improvement, achieving a long-term change in practices that contribute to the minimization of pollution that may be generated in the vicinity of the area.

7. Benefit La Montaña Tarrazú will comply with current regulations, minimize environmental impact through process improvement, protecting biodiversity and ecosystems in the implementation of environmentally friendly and economically sustainable technologies.

8. Benefit La Montaña Tarrazú will generate periodic information on the classification results, amount of waste and emissions generated in the organization's operations and generates recommendations for improving the management and reduction of non-recyclable waste.

9. Beneficiation La Montaña Tarrazú will take full advantage of the by-products generated in the wet processing processes.

The previous provisions include the responsibilities and commitments that the organization has signed through environmental licenses and that are part of the work of the different production areas of Beneficio La Montaña Tarrazú.
